About Us

Neil Newman, owner of Newman’s Construction, was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He still lives seven blocks from where he grew up. He graduated from Norcom High School in 1979. He attended Tidewater Community College and studied automotive, welding, geometry, and machine tool trade and theory. After college, he worked in the flooring industry for several years, then in construction, before deciding to start his own business.

Neil founded Newman’s Construction in 1986, specializing in hardwood floors. They were one of the first companies in the area to offer Pergo floors, which were imported from Europe. Customers were so pleased with their work that they asked them to do other projects, such as decks, roofing, and home additions. Later, Newman’s Construction added kitchen and bathroom remodeling, which Neil enjoys the most.

Neil has four sons and one daughter. He also has a granddaughter and five grandsons. He enjoys tinkering and repairing things. He taught himself how to weld and work with electronics. He has built several 3D printers.

Neil’s motto is “We do it all, all the time. So you need only one contractor in the house who can do everything.”
